Vision
Please note that the venue has changed due to budgetary constraints.
Unity. It’s one of those things that we like to talk about, but don’t necessarily like to practice. We like to pretend we care about unity, but in the long run, it’s just easier to stay in our own corners and worry about our own issues, relationships, and programs. What could happen though if we got serious about unity? What could happen if we stepped across denominational lines, geographical lines, and for one night stepped out from our own churches, and came together at a central place in our community with the sole purpose of rallying teenagers for the cause of Christ? What if we all committed to unite for one night? The result would be an event called “Unight”!
Last year what started as a plan to get a few youth groups together for a back to school rally turned into a vision of gathering hundreds of students together at LEHS for an evening of food & games, worship & teaching, and prayer for the 2010-2011 school year. Imagine hundreds of students in the auditorium at Bethany United Methodist Church hearing powerful teaching about living boldly as Christ followers as we begin the new school year. Imagine students lifting up their classmates, teachers, and Jesus while doing a prayer walk down the hallways, and around the perimeter of the school. This gives you glimpse into the vision for Unight. Now lets talk about the details.
Unight will take place on Sunday, August 29th, 2010, just a few days before the beginning of the school year. The event will be held from 6-8 PM (registration starts at 5:30p) at Bethany United Methodist Church [map] in Liberty Township. Cost for the event is FREE per student (If you bring 2 canned goods to be donated to Reach Out Lakota, otherwise it is $5). This money will pay for the rental of the high school, as well as the honorarium for the speaker. Any leftover money will be donated to local food and clothing pantry: Reach Out Lakota.
